Billiards officially starts its bid for the 2024 Olympics from the Eiffel Tower

PARIS, 8th November 2018 – The World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) and the French Billiards Federation (Fédération Française de Billard – FFB) are officially presenting billiards’ bid as an additional sport for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The project will be officially introduced during a joint press conference between WCBS and FFB, on Friday 30th of November, 2018 at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

A Large-Scale Campaign

« Our goal is to create unity in the world of Cue Sports, which shall enable us to lead the best possible campaign in order to gain Olympic recognition. » 

This candidacy has been thoroughly planned by the Billiards 2024 project committee – a team composed of federations executives, industry leaders, event promoters, media experts and world-class champions.

Several events will be organized in order to get the general public’s attention. To further spread the sport’s awareness, an online petition and a social media campaign have been launched to support the candidacy: #billiards2024 is the hashtag that shall unite all billiards enthusiasts around the World.

This sport, rooted in our history and mentalities, has been declined worldwide into many disciplines. The three main ones – Snooker, Carom and Pool – are structured under the WCBS into national, continental and worldwide federations.

The WCBS, which the world federations representing all disciplines are affiliated to, covers 261 national federations, coming from 135 countries. Hundreds of millions of players in the world enjoy the sport.

Several leaders of world federations as well as many international champions will gather at the Eiffel Tower to uphold Billiards’ values.

This event will start with a presentation of the official project, interviews with champions and federation leaders, as well as a spectacular trickshots show.

During the conference, the speakers will be: Ian Anderson (Australia – WCBS President), Jean-Paul Sinanian (France – FFB President), Diane Wild (Switzerland- WCBS General Secretary), Jean-Pierre Guiraud (France – Billiards 2024 Coordinator), Jérémy Bury (France – Carom, vice-World Champion, multiple times French champion), Jasmin Ouschan (Austria – Pool, World Champion, multiple times European champion ) and Shaun Murphy (England – Snooker, World Champion, 2017 “Champion of Champions”).

The world reknowned trickshot artist Florian Kohler (who has cumulated over 1 Billion views on his YouTube channel) will perform live!
